Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to you today on behalf of all adults and children who have been or will be affected by the Swine Flu. At this point we don’t know if this scare is much-ado-about-nothing or a true worldwide pandemic as some predict. Neither do we know if any in our little group will be personally affected. But we do know that several people have already died in Mexico; we do know that those families are already grieving and perhaps suffering from the illness themselves. Please comfort them, Jesus; please protect them. Give them access to doctors and medicine and grant wisdom to caregivers.
Because we know the power of prayer, as a group we metaphorically join hands across our nation and around the world. We extend our prayers to you, God, for peoples and nations already hit by this and those that will be infected. We ask for healing and comfort for those infected and we believe that when we call out to you our voices are heard and you reach down in compassion to help.
Though we would prefer you stamp out this illness before it starts, if the flu does gain a foothold we will choose to thank you for the opportunity it offers hearts to turn back to you. Just as 911 called our nation back to you temporarily, let this fear of illness call people to seek your face permanently; call our entire nation to cling to you.
Last, we specifically ask for protection for each precious person reading this email. Send your angels to form a hedge around them to keep the evil one from them. Heal any who are sick; remind them they can rest in your goodness and mercy no matter what troubles come. Make them aware of your faithful love.
Keep us from doubts and fearful thoughts, and make each of us willing to reach out to assist others should the need arise. We pray this in your name, Jesus, amen.
Supporting verses:
“He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you. And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore.” Isaiah 30:19, 20
“Oh my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations . . . For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy. O Lord hear; O Lord forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act.” Daniel 9: 18, 19
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.” Nahum 1:7
“And he said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts’” Luke 24:38
