Since the bailouts, I have been watching the news much more. With the increase in government spending and the stimulus bills being passed left and right, it is time for those who pay for this to say, “Stop Helping Me Obama!”
Since President Obama’s election, I have been waiting for the promises he made to come to fruition, but this has yet to happen. I do not believe what the President says. I cannot stand by and do nothing when I truly believe this is a wrong direction for this country. I deal with government run health care every time I make an appointment, fill a prescription, etc.
Being on the Tricare military healthcare, I know firsthand what health care rationing is. I know how much the government uses mid-level providers to fill physician positions. I know they will deny coverage for certain treatments and medications when they are needed but considered too costly. I have seen the lines for prescription medicine taking hours to fill a prescription that cannot be filled over the phone. I feel I have a different perspective on the HR 3200 bill and I can offer a different insight on the future of health care if this bill passes. This is why I paid my way to Washington D.C.
I am in my mid-twenties and looking towards the next 10, 20, 30 years down the road, much further than the next presidential election. I fear the short and long term ramifications of this bill, such as health care rationing, end of life counseling, the future of cancer treatment facilities, nurses taking over the physicians’ jobs, research and development of new drugs and procedures.
I am less concerned about the next 10 years and more concerned about the findings from The Lewin Group which states the program will essentially pay for itself the next ten years, but after such time the plan would add $1 trillion to the deficit. The latest figure was each person shares $38,000 of the government debt. How will the money be paid?
The President claims no new tax implementation for the America’s Affordable Healthcare Choices Act of 2009 and part of the money will come from “waste”. I want to see this so called “waste”. I want the numbers, figures, diagrams, and data to show where the funding will come from. Here’s a novel idea: why don’t we use this “waste” and pay off some debt! No more looking to China to finance our stimulus packages and way of life.

Yes, yes and yes! Being denied the best, most aggressive treatments because it will cost the insurance more is the scary part about this HR3200 bill. Certain expensive medications will be rationed or not even offered. Now the cheaper meds like birth control, Motrin(which fixes everything in the military!), etc will be readily available and easy to get from a mid-level provider. The problem lies in the tough cases, such as yourself, who need to go to specialty facilities for treatment. Do I want the goverment telling me that my parents will be denied the treatment they need because they dont have as many “productive” years as a 20yo? Rationing of health care will select who recieves and does not recieve treatment, which will be dictated by the government. What will be the future of our cancer treatment facilites, Mayo Health Clinc, MD Anderson? It is too early to tell.
I wish you all the best.
Thank you for your story Sarah. I too, am on the government’s Tricare medical plan and we suffer the same problems. We also have difficulty being seen and often are referred to the Urgent Care or Emergency Room facilities because the government clinic cannot handle the load. Surely this drives costs up even more. I have been dealing with medical issues the past few months as well that the military clinic could not figure out. Not to mention, I never saw the same primary care manager in the entire six years we’ve been here. I got a civilian doctor who is great. They still cannot figure out what is going on and wanted to send me to the Mayo Clinic but Tricare has denied it. So, now…I just wait. Which is something you can relate to. We have gotten very good at the waiting game. This governemnt run health care system is on a much smaller scale than what Obama is talking about and I am scared to death to see how his plan will work. We surely will be waiting even more. At least you and I will be a little prepared and ahead of the game. Thank you for going to DC and representing those who could not make it. God bless you!
