Waves of emotion crashing like the sea
Ebbing and flowing in torrents
Weariness and soul sapping pain
Tears in unexpected bursts
But STILL God’s love holds me
He will not let me go
He holds me fast
Until the storm abates
And the rainbow comes
God’s light shines in the darkest place
Our guide if we place our hand in His
His love will warm us
Bringing the embers back to a glow
In time we will emerge
From the tunnel
Into the bright light again
I want to run away
But for now must walk through the pain
Eyes blinded by tears
Humbled and brought low
Laid bare and stripped of hopes and dreams
But in the barren ground a flower will one day grow
The pain for now is so intense
To love and to lose
God seeks me out in that most painful place
And I cannot close my heart to Him
His promise of a rainbow still holds true
With the hope of a time when tears and pain will cease.
(Inspired by the Hymn “Oh the love that will not let me go” written by George Matheson in 1882)

This was so hauntingly beautiful, Diane. The whole poem was so moving, but I especially loved your phrase:
“God’s light shines in the darkest place…”
