Edmiston Named Director of Florida Operations
HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have promoted Travis Driskill to pitching coach at Double A Corpus Christi for 2010. Driskill was originally named pitching coach at Class A Lexington in November after serving as interim pitching coach at Lexington in 2009 and one season as pitching coach at Greeneville (2008). Former Greeneville Astros pitching coach Rick Aponte has been appointed as Driskill’s replacement at Lexington. Aponte enters his 34th season in Houston’s minor league system as either a player, coach or scout. He served as bullpen coach for the Washington Nationals from 2007-08. The pitching coach for the GCL Astros, as well as the Greeneville Astros pitching coach, will be announced at a later date.
Also, the club has named Jay Edmiston as Director of Florida Operations. Edmiston has served as Assistant Director of Baseball Operations for Houston since 2005 and was general manager of the Gulf Coast League Astros during its inaugural season in 2009. Based in Kissimmee, Florida, home of the Houston Astros Spring Training, Edmiston oversees all day-to-day operations for the complex in Florida, as well as Houston’s instructional league. Edmiston enters his 24th year within the Astros organization in 2010 after joining the club as a bat boy in 1986. He has served various roles during his tenure with the club, including minor league equipment manager in Florida, coordinator of Florida operations, minor league administrator and general manager of the Gulf Coast League Kissimmee Cobras (1999-2000).
