I have not actually insulted the intelligence of any of the people you list. I’m just not going to get into past nominees.

Other people who seem smart who have a shot at the GOP nomination are Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. Both of them had stellar academic records, but I admit Jindal seems the smartest of them to me. Why wouldn’t he have a shot? His name has been mentioned before, and he seems very competent, conservative, and capable.

On the other hand, Palin struggled at a bunch of different colleges, and barely completed her degree without any sort of especial distinction.

What I’m noting is not that being Republican makes her dumb. It doesn’t. What I’m noting is that in going all out for Palin, you’re blowing past candidates who appear by any outside measure to be better informed and smarter and more able to command respect.

Of course, no-one’s going to select the GOP nominee based on what a liberal like myself says; but I would, and have, applied the same kind of criteria to Democratic contenders for the presidency, some of whom have, by my standards, been definitely enough.

I don’t want someone in the Oval Office who scraped a pass in her four-year degree. That puts her at about the 70th percentile of the adult population in terms of academics. I want 99th. I want someone really smart, and preferably smarter than me. Being able to walk and talk and breathe in and out without written instructions is not enough.

Call that elitism if you want; I call it “standards”.

Ronald Regan was a drooling idiot….so said the liberals.

Dan Quayle was such a clinical moron he couldn’t tie his own shoes ….so said the liberals.

George H.W. Bush was very popular when he ran for the GOP nomination against Ronald Reagan. As soon as he became Reagan’s running mate he, too became an idiot….so said the left of the former Rice University Professor. (There’s some smart people at Rice University ain’t they?)

George W. Bush (Yale Grad) was such a boob it was impossible to believe that he could breathe without someone standing beside him and at all times saying, “In. Out. In. Out.”….so said the left.

Now along comes Sarah Palin that thing of which liberal nightmares are made and she’s portrayed as being dumber than dirt.

Some on the left have even gone so far as to mock her state school education. Who can blame them after all state colleges only produce morons, right?

Yet, you on the left now tout the brillance of Bobby Jindall!

Why? Only because you know that Jindall hasn’t a snow ball’s chance in heck of ever getting elected to the White House. Of course you want him to run. You know you can beat him with one false attack tied behind your backs.

So, you paint Sarah with the broad stroke which you’ve painted every Republican president in the last 30 years.

Sarah is common. Sarah is real. Sarah is loved and respected by Christians, and conservatives alike and that, makes you sweat all over.

Keep up the great work, PLEASE.

Every time the left attacks Sarah Palin her popularity goes up. Even thoseon the right who have previously dismissed her come closer to her with every attack.

You see, despite the fact that we’re all possum eatin’, butt scratchers who drink beer all day, those of us on the right figured out a long, long, long time ago that if you fear a conservative we should embrace and lift up that conservative.

Keep up the bashing of Sarah Palin…you’re absolutely insuring that Todd will soon be choosing the new drapes for the Oval Office.

She just doesn’t seem really to know what she’s talking about a lot of the time.

Oh, she can be funny, and she hits all of the conservative buttons. She stood up against oil company corruption in Alaska, and I respect that. But I’ve seen nothing to suggest that she’s capable of being a great, or even a good, President of the United States.

The fact that the right is pushing her, rather than somebody equally conservative and twelve times as smart like Bobby Jindal, simply suggests to me that the right is mostly composed these days of people who would actually prefer a president who isn’t all that smart.

We’ve been through that. Let’s not put America through it again.
