He put a female inside a male body? Something He’s been doing much too frequently according to Oprah Winfrey, the entertainment community, the educational community and the left leaning media. At least that’s what one might surmise from Oprah’s television program that aired in February.
On the set of the Oprah Winfrey Show, Paul/Kimberly, the former straight A high school star athlete, former Berkeley college student and current San Francisco resident was very non-judgingly interviewed by Ms. Winfrey. Paul/Kimberly conveyed years of tortured thoughts and behaviors related to being a female trapped inside a handsome male frame, all the while, no one, even those closest family and friends, ever suspected. Supported by friends in the homosexual community, He/she decided to correct the mistake inflicted on him by ingesting female hormones and ultimately undergoing a radical sex change.
The transformation was a modern medical miracle. We now view a gorgeous, vibrant lesbian, in a long relationship with another lesbian, who is “coming to terms” with the “person” he/she is meant to be. And, as Oprah underscored, there are so many others who will watch the program and reach many of the same conclusions as Paul/Kimberly. Hallelujah! Welcome to the misguided church of Oprah.
While the interview was long on pop psychology and soupy emotions, it was short on actual medical facts, the most glaring being that Paul/Kimberly was born with X and Y chromosome in his DNA. For those Oprah congregants who might not be aware, that means he was born a male, and since DNA cannot be altered, Paul /Kimberly will die a male. He can feed his cells female hormones, and through medical science can alter his outer male organs. He can receive artificial female breasts, put on make up and look like a woman outside, but he will forever be a MAN!
At one point in the show, a question was directed to Paul/Kimberly’s mother, “Don’t you believe in the Bible?” Her response was, “I believe in my son.” Oprah seemed to indicate that was the most profound moment of the interview. She repeated it for all those watching who might need to cling to that revelation.
With all due respect to Paul/Kimberly’s mother and to Ms. Winfrey, I do believe in the Bible and in the God of the Bible. I do not accept Oprah Winfrey’s new age god who makes mistakes and has to be corrected by modern science. I believe in the God who “changes not” and always intended for Paul to be a strong productive man. I ask, “What if a pastor, priest or some Christian guidance counselor had been approached to assist him through the compulsive thoughts, desires and behaviors?” Paul might never have become Kimberly.
I have a profound belief in the God who heals, forgives and restores anyone, at any time from any situation. In spite of all the physical changes he’s made, I still believe in real redemption for Paul. I believe that he can reconcile who he was created to be?a spiritually re-born child of God with male DNA. Make no mistake about it.

I have 2 pieces of scriptural advice for the author. Judge not lest ye be judged. And, as ye judge so shall ye be judged. Ma’am there is nothing in your words or doctrine that represents the Jesus that I personally know and try, in my daily life to emulate. Do not put yourself out to the public as a protector of the word or a teacher of the word, because you clearly slept through the lectures on unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness. Sure the doctrine comes out of your mouth, but with spittle flying and belying the contempt you hold in your heart for your brothers and sisters who are suffering. Ask yourself sincerely, read the words that you just wrote and see if you can see Jesus saying them. Ask yourself, by what standard am I governing myself, the standard of God as revealed to us through Jesus Christ or the wildly popular version of a vengeful God not invented by but surely promoted by the political right?
It is my understanding that within scripture, there is reference to God sending down messengers or angels. I’ve often wondered … what IF, transgendered are such messengers, sent to discover whether those of C. Ingram’s ilk are truly adherent to His teaching “judge not lest ye be judged”? I have also come to the conclusion, among others, that the one thing worse than ignorance is willful ignorance. Faith can be a wonderful until like many other things, it is misused, blinds, or is used in an attempt to seem “holier than thou”.
Ms. Ingram It was my understanding that the good Lord wanted to be the judge upon judgment day. Your words of condemnation show your ignorance . If Kimberly is in need of judgment, leave it to the lord to be her judge.
I’d like to challenge the idea that the Bible condemns those who change their body and live in the gender that they were not assigned to at birth (on the most cursory examination, I might add). Deut 22:5 is about cross dressing for illicit entry to gendered spaces and the same chapter condemns virgins who have been raped to marry their rapists so I have doubts as to the applicability of that chapter, or of the whole Old Testament, to modern life. Other than that verse I know of no other that mentions cross sexed behavior.
Our physical bodies are of the earth, a domain whose dominion was granted to Adam in Genesis. Thus, it seems to me, that God doesn’t care what we do to our bodies as long as we don’t harm them or disable them in any way. God certainly doesn’t care if we are male or female, as Paul Noted in Galatians, we are all one in Christ. We leave our bodies behind when we die and go to our reward. What we do with them here, short of harming them and disabling ourselves, is really pointless in the greater scheme of things. How we treat others, hopefully as we ourselves would like to be treated, how we deal with the poor and needy and how we live our lives is much more important than the container we use to live them in.
It also doesn’t fit that God would not create women in men’s bodies and vice versa. The fact that measurable intersex conditions exist shows that God’s creation has room for many things outside our immediate understanding and classification systems. It’s our job to change our views to fit with God’s reality, not the other way around.
I’ll just give the titles – the contents should be obvious. I know that it’s a bit much to expect a pastor to know about neuro-anatomy, but I don’t think it’s charitable to condemn a group of people without doing some research first. For example, the erroneous opinion about “Male” chromosomes. False and Uncharitable too, though well-meant.

Here’s the abstract from
Sexual Hormones and the Brain: An Essential Alliance for Sexual Identity and Sexual Orientation Garcia-Falgueras A, Swaab DF Endocr Dev. 2010;17:22-35
The fetal brain develops during the intrauterine period in the male direction through a direct action of testosterone on the developing nerve cells, or in the female direction through the absence of this hormone surge. In this way, our gender identity (the conviction of belonging to the male or female gender) and sexual orientation are programmed or organized into our brain structures when we are still in the womb. However, since sexual differentiation of the genitals takes place in the first two months of pregnancy and sexual differentiation of the brain starts in the second half of pregnancy, these two processes can be influenced independently, which may result in extreme cases in trans-sexuality. This also means that in the event of ambiguous sex at birth, the degree of masculinization of the genitals may not reflect the degree of masculinization of the brain. There is no indication that social environment after birth has an effect on gender identity or sexual orientation.
OK, the sound byte?
ANATOMICALLY female brain in anatomically male body. A form of Intersex, someone with anatomy neither wholly male nor wholly female.
Now whether such a condition should be “healed” by changing the brain (and destroying the personality) – not that we know how to do that – or changing the body to make the two congruent, that’s another issue.
Neither do I discount the power of prayer – just that the track record of healing transsexuality through divine intervention is comparable with the record of amputated limbs being re-grown through the same means.
Given that many Christian denominations consider it unbiblical for a woman to be a Pastor or a teacher of the Gospel to men, and you clearly disagree…
How can you then argue with firm conviction that your understanding of God’s will concerning transsexuals is the only proper interpretation of Scripture?
Various Christian denominations disagree in many ways about the very heart of our faith – how one is in fact saved by God….and yet while divided over such a crucial matter we presume to be very certain about something which is comparatively far more trivial?
Seems very presumptuous.
Further, one can no more invoke the trite “God doesn’t make mistakes” canard against such people than one can use it against, for instance, a child born with Down’s Syndrome.
The very existence of birth defects (mental and physical) demonstrates that being born with something wrong with you doesn’t constitute “God made a mistake” – thus that attack loses it’s logical basis in regard to those who claim to have been born with gender defects in their brain.
In the absence of certainty (other than the illogical assumption that one’s own views MUST be the correct ones) it seems to me that while we are still searching for God mind when it comes to this matter, we can remember that if their is anything we ARE certain of about God, it’s that he is a loving being who offers grace to the unloveable – and he asks us to follow his example.
Speaking as a fellow believer, I can only wonder if we really serve Him best when we major on the minors in an effort to “call out” sin rather than demonstrating his grace.
