HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA, GIVE THANKS TO OUR TROOPS

us_flag

Today, millions of
Americans celebrate the 234th birthday of the United States of
America and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As we remember with parades, hot dogs, hamburgers, concerts, games,
parties and fireworks, it is equally important for ALL to give thanks to
our many military men and women, who risk their lives for the freedoms of those
who live in America.

While we enjoy our
Independence Day Holiday with family and friends, military families
are making the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. According to Admiral Mike
Mullen, over “200,000 uniformed American” Service
Members are serving in war. June 2010 marked one of the deadliest
months for the United States military.

Arlington National
Cemetery, which dates back to the Civil War, continues to bury 27 to 30
military people five days a week.

On Friday, June 2nd,
Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, took part
in an event, Operation USO Care Package, also known as OUCP.

Operation USO Care
Package was established in 2003 to help supply everyday necessities
to deployed service men and women, serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other
overseas regions. Included in care packages is toothpaste, toothbrushes,
shampoo, sunscreen, sunglasses, phone cards and playing cards. In
light of increased security concerns, care packages and mail are no longer
permitted to be sent to individual Service Members.

In a White House Press
Release, President Obama remarked that the United States, with as great a
Nation as it is, the freedoms we enjoy have “not come without tremendous
cost.” The President further extended his gratitude to all
military men and women from the “American Revolution to the present
day” concluding, “the sacrifices of our Armed Forces have been
extraordinary.”

Thus, as each of us
reflects on this Independence Day, (July 4th), may we hold in our hearts,
thoughts and prayers our Service Men and Women, wherever they are. And, because
of their bravery, may we ALL, like the title of a song I
wrote, “Make Everyday A Day To Remember.”

Happy Birthday America!
Many thanks to our courageous military men and women.

Peace be with you ALL!
