Violence erupted again over the weekend just steps from the U.S. border in
Ciudad Juarez. Fourteen people were
killed on Sunday in two separate attacks on private homes. Mexican Drug Cartels opened fire on a pool
party in central Ciudad Juarez. Three
women and a man were killed, five other women were wounded. All victims were wearing swimsuits.
In a separate pre-dawn attack, also at a private home, “a group of
gunmen riddled party-goers with bullets, leaving three people dead,” the Chihuahua
state Attorney General’s office said.
Three others died later at the hospital from wounds received in the
attack.
The bodies of four other men who had reportedly been tortured were found in
various parts of that same city near El Paso, Texas. The Mexican government reports that one of
the dead was Jose Luis Amaya, a Jiminez town official.
Chihuahua state prosecutors said that another 10 people were murdered in
other locations near Juarez between Friday and late Saturday bringing the
weekend death toll up to 24.
Mexican officials report that Ciudad
Juarez had more than 2,660 murders in 2009 and 1,850 thus far in 2010. Ciudad Juarez has a population of 1.3 million. Most of the violence in the city is
attributed to a turf war between the Juarez and Sinaloa gangs, each of whom is
seeking to control trafficking routes into the United States.
Throughout Mexico clashes between drug
cartels and clashes with the Mexican army have killed approximately 28,000
people since President Felipe Calderon took office in December of 2006.

Final the Obama administration does something after months and months of public outcry about the border. Still, the amount of money spent to protect the citizen along the border is peanuts and will only begin to correct the problem.
