PLAN ACCORDINGLY

Vacations in our
family are not a regular activity, but when they do happen, I am so blessed to
have my wife. She is our planner, making sure everyone has everything they
need so we are set for the trip. I know I can count on her to know how many outfits and diapers we need, to get
all the directions and make sure we are set to go. If I don’t meet with
her before we start packing and check in with her regularly, then I know that
the clothes I pick will be wrong, I’ll leave behind directions, and we’ll
probably even be late or miss our destination entirely.

God wants to be our planner in the trip we take in life. We are to do the
work of our life – sharing His word, fulfilling our duties as family members
and business people, serving in our church, building relationships with love.
But if we don’t check in with God for His purposes and His
directions, we will not have the right equipment and we will miss the
destination He has planned for us.

“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain.”
(Psalm 127:1)

“Woe to the obstinate children,” declares the LORD, “to those
who carry out plans that are not mine…” (Isaiah 30:1)

It can be tempting to try to figure out our direction on our own. Sometimes
we really don’t know which way to go, but we begin following a path that makes
sense. However, God calls us to submit our need for control and certainty, and instead, let him lead the way. In the same way we would hire a tour
guide if we visited a foreign land, God wants to be our guide for our journey
in life.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in
all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”
(Proverbs 3:5-6)

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that
prevails” (Proverbs 19:21)

If you’ve already set your plans without God as your guide, or if you need help
planning, all you have to do is ask God for help. You can trust that the
Heavenly Father who created you and knows all about you has a great journey
prepared for you.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to
all without finding fault, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans
to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah
29:11)
