States spend $113 billion a year for social services for illegals
In
the past two years, as unemployment remained near 10 percent, more than
1 million immigrants, of whom 35 percent were undocumented or illegal,
have gotten jobs in the United States.
The basic story is that in
the past two years, U.S. employers have chosen to go for cheap
immigrant help, while the economy as a hole has shed millions of jobs
for U.S. workers.
At the same time, providing social services is
costing cash-strapped states billions of dollars to pay for a wide range
of services many states can no longer afford, including welfare
payments, health services and education of children, with classes often
provided in Spanish.
The Federation for American Immigration
Reform estimates that the cost of illegal immigration to the states
stands at about $113 billion, with nearly half that amount going to
education costs.
1 million immigrants land jobs in U.S. since 2008
That
over one million immigrants have found employment in the U.S. since
2008 was the conclusion of a review of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
and Census Bureau data conducted exclusively for Reuters by researchers
at the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University in
Boston.
“Employers have chosen to use new immigrants over
native-born workers and have continued to displace large numbers of
blue-collar workers and young adults without college degrees,” concluded
Andrew Sum, director of the Center for Labor Market Studies.
“One
of the advantages of hiring, particularly young, undocumented
immigrants, is the fact that employers do not have to pay health
benefits or basic payroll taxes,” Sum told Reuters.
The study
concluded that from 2008 to 2010, approximately 1.1 million new migrants
who have entered the United States have obtained jobs, while U.S.
household employment declined overall by 6.26 million during that same
period of time.
The Reuters-commissioned study found immigrants
were acquiring employment in traditional low-wage work associated with
foreign, undocumented and especially Mexican labor: hotels and food
services, retail trade, sanitation, cleaning and construction.
Meanwhile,
the unemployment rate for all Americans without a high-school diploma
in the age group under 30 is about 27 percent to 29 percent, at or near
Depression areas, while unemployment in sectors such as construction is
almost 21 percent.
Illegals intensify state-budget crisis
Last
week, Michael Antonovich, the Los Angeles County supervisor, released
new statistics showing welfare costs for the children of illegal
immigrants cost the county $600 million last year, up from $570 million
in 2009, as reported by Fox News.
Going beyond the cost of food
stamps and welfare-style benefits through the state program CalWORKS to
include the costs of public safety and health care, the total cost for
illegal immigrants to Los Angeles taxpayers for 2010 was more than $1.6
billion, not including education costs.
“The problem is illegal
immigration,” Antonovich spokesman Tony Bell told Fox News. “Their
parents evidently immigrated here in order to get on social services. We
can no longer afford to be HMO to the world.”
The Federation for
American Immigration Reform estimates that the illegal immigrants cost
California $21.8 billion a year, for all social welfare services, public
safety and health costs, as well as education costs.
California is estimated to have a $25 billion budget shortfall in 2011.
California opens state universities to illegals
In
November, California’s Supreme Court ruled unanimously that illegal
aliens can continue attending California colleges at the cheaper
in-state tuition rates, a move that threatens to expand California’s
already severe budget crisis.
Right now, about 25,000 illegals are estimated to receive in-state tuition rates in California.
Last
week, the California Department of Education released data indicating
that for the first time Latinos now make up the majority of California’s
public school students, cracking the 50 percent barrier for the first
time in state history, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Even
though the California Department of Education did not sort out the data
to indicate what percentage of the Latinos were illegal immigrants, the
report suggests the California Supreme Court decision could be costly
to California taxpayers having to subsidize illegal immigrants at
colleges and universities in the state.
The U.S. Supreme Court
has yet to decide if allowing illegal immigrants the lower, in-state
tuition rate for college and universities violates federal law.

You seem very confused.
No one calls Hispanics who are in this country legally, or born in this country of latino or mexican descent, Aliens.
Aliens is a term used to described ANYONE of any nationality residing in a country who is not a citizen, or naturalized citizen.
This is not a term invented to describe people of Hispanic descent only – See the Dictionary:
1. a resident born in or belonging to another country who has not acquired citizenship by naturalization ( distinguished from citizen).
2. a foreigner.
Alien is also used to describe life from another planet, but that is not the use being ascribed in this case.
You say you’re not from another planet just another continent….Mexico and the U.S. are on the same continent: North America.
Aztecs, as well as Native Americans were the original people of this continent. And yes, all “White” people did come here from other nations and from other parts of the world.
No one has any issue with anyone of any nationality, race or ethnicity coming to this country – LEGALLY.
The question “True Citizen” is legality. The U.S. – just like every country on the face of the earth – has laws ascribing the proper and legal way to enter the country.
Those who choose to enter this country in violation of the law, become an issue.
Being of Hispanic descent no more allows you the right to automatically be a U.S. citizen than does my ancestry allow me to automatically be a citizen of Ireland.
My mother’s ancestors came to this country in the 1800′s from Ireland. I do not have a right to claim Irish citizenship.
If you want to look at bigotry against immigrants – look at how the Irish were treated when they came to the U.S. in droves following the potato famine in Ireland.
Businesses used to have signs on their front door saying “NO IRISH”.
So, stop acting as if your people are being persecuted.
If you are a “true citizen” then you were either born here, or have attained citizenship legally. If you have not done either of those two things then you are an illegal alien.
You say you deserve your rights? What rights? What right rights would I be afforded under Mexican law if I were to walk across the border to the south (very near my home) and simply decide to live in Mexico.
Would I be given ALL the same “rights” as a Mexican citizen?
Would the same be true in any nation on earth?
You are owed nothing. You are entitled to nothing, unless or until you go about becoming a citizen legally.
It amazes me how you want to be “given” your “rights” all the while refusing to acknowledge the sovereignty of the laws of this nation – the very laws which offer such “rights” and protection.
Stop whining and do the right thing.
okay…there are some good points in this article but at the same time y in the hell do they call us hispanics immigrants and especially our nickname ALIENS.. do we llook like aliens to u.. we dnt come from a different planet were in the same planet just in diffferent continetns. we are all the same and for them to call us immigrants is so ignorent of them and appathetic becuase we are all immigrants the true americans are the astics becuase the white ppl come from the EUROPEAN CONTINENT!!! so if they are citizens and come from some where else then we deserve the right to be citizens as well and if the governement is worried about their billions maybe they should let us work for what we want and what we need to survive in the united states that states “liberty and justice for all”… yeah rite justice and liberty where when we still get treated like were less than others.. we wouldnt be asking for their help if they just gave what other immigrants get and im tlking about us latinos im tlking about other races!..we should get rights too!
That 1 million is a total left wing anti American number just taking the number of Illegal Alien Invaders which come over the border per year is more than that and they must be doing something for a job
if the dream act would have been approved that might have helped, but do they care? no. but if they wanted to send all of us back to mexico it would cost the economy alot of money and if we go then everybody would die of starvation because everybody here in the U.S. depends on us to pick all the vegetables. Viva Mexico !!!!!!!!
In California illegal aliens have great jobs! They have nice new cars and
look very happy.
Americans are the people in the pits.
How do illegal aliens get these jobs? With fake ID or they use the SS# of legal relatives.
These illegal job thieves need to be arrested and deported.
Clark, may I put say this politely? You’re an imbecile. Real unemployment in some states has been estimated as far as 40%. Spouting the R word says more about you! Yet, employers — with the nod-and-wink of this freckles government — has been hiring third-world over our desperate young and uneducated. Frankly, I’m perplexed why enraged soles aren’t at the door of these businesses and why we are not BOYCOTTING THEM!!
“Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada” “For the race everything, outside the race nothing”
All of the laws should be enforced equally, regardless of race, religion, and/or national origin. That is with the exception of mexicans, and they should be above the law and exempt from the law. And the only purpose that a tonto gringo serves is to pay taxes to support the superior and noble mexican.
Anyone who disagrees with this philosophy is Xenophobic and a Racist.

Betrayed by our own government and pandering politicians!
