KATY – After numerous inquiries about
the status of classes at Katy ISD today, we can offer the following information
that was posted last night on the Katy ISD website:
The district’s Emergency Management
Team has received an update from the National Weather Service stating that the
winter precipitation forecast for Thursday evening may arrive in our area
earlier in the day. District officials are continuing to monitor the developing
weather situation for Thursday and have in place the following action plan
should the weather deteriorate throughout the day tomorrow:
- Thursday morning, district officials will determine if
weather and road conditions warrant an early dismissal. If an early
dismissal is called for, then junior high campuses will dismiss at 12:35
and elementary campuses will dismiss at 1:40. A notice will be posted on
the district Web should there be a decision to dismiss early.Because of the possibility of an early dismissal on Thursday, parents
are encouraged to make arrangements tonight for transportation (if student
does not ride the bus) and/or child care that may be needed tomorrow.
Parents have two ways to receive
school closings via e-mail and text alerts (please note that these are
third-party sites not administered by Katy ISD):
- On the left side of the page enter the name of the
school for which you would like to receive alerts then click on “Find Your
School.” - Once found, select your school to continue. You will
have the option of adding additional schools. - Enter your e-mail address and cell phone number if you
would like to receive alerts via text message. - Click on “Subscribe Now” to complete the registration
process.
- From the main menu click “Join Mailing list.”
- From the drop-down menu, click on Katy ISD.
- Scroll down and enter your name and e-mail address in
the appropriate fields. Enter you cell phone number in the appropriate
field if you would also like to receive alerts via text message. - Click “submit” and you should see a thank you message
verifying that you have been placed on a mailing list to receive alerts.
We would also recommend contacting your child’s school directly rather than waiting for a third party notification.
