MAGNOLIA ISD – This is the seventh year Fishing Buddies has been hosted at the Magnolia High School ag pond and has now expanded to include visits from the Life Skills students of all four secondary school campuses in the District: Magnolia High School, Magnolia West High School, Magnolia Junior High, and Bear Branch Junior High.
Fishing Buddies is comprised of nearly 100 student volunteers who dedicate an entire school day to serving the Life Skills students by helping them find enjoyment and success in the simple pleasures of fishing. The students are paired up with Buddies who help them set their lines, cast their rods, and reel in their catches.
Several volunteers were designated as cheerleaders and motivators to keep the students’ spirits high when the fish weren’t biting. Thanks to the Magnolia Chic-Fil-A for sending their cow to bring lunch for the student volunteers and entertaining the Life Skills students.
Special thanks to Pat Havlin for her continued support of Fishing Buddies throughout the years and for her efforts to coordinate this event with all of the Life Skills programs. Also, gratitude goes out to Jeff Springer and the entire Magnolia High School faculty and staff for their role in supporting this event by allowing Mr. Anderson and his student volunteers to make an impact on the lives of these students.
