MAGNOLIA ISD – Magnolia West High School was recently represented at the 2011 FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California. FCCLA stand for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and is the only student led organization with family as its central focus.
The conference was attended by more than 6,300 members with approzimately 3,500 taking place in competitive events. Among those were MWHS students Nelli Garcia, Vanessa Delapaz, and Jessica Estrada, who received a gold medal for their National Program project, “TTYL… or Not”, where they informed MWHS students over the dangers of texting and driving. Also, Magan Currie and Ashton Sheppard placed Gold with their Chapter Showcase project, “On Fire with FCCLA!” They presented the numerous community service activities that Magnolia West FCCLA participates in.
Also in attendance at the conference was Lauren Roetzler who is currently serving as the Texas Region IV President. Students were not only able to compete with their projects, but also attended youth leadership sessions and heard from Food Network’s Chef Jeff, who shared his personal story of overcoming life’s obstacles.
