MAGNOLIA ISD – Forty-two students at Magnolia High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the 2011 AP Exams taken last May. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while in high school and to earn college credit for their successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.9 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 (out of a possible 5) on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are Seniors Robert Brittain, Matthew Finley, Loren Galloway, and Jordan Lorenz. 2011 graduates Bryttin Boyde, Victoria Lehrmann, Erin Plachy, and Brady Reed also earned this award.
Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. The award goes to Senior Katlynn Hallisey, David Parr, Anna Pimentel, and Krystal Watson. 2011 graduates who also received this award are Kendall Anderson, Emily McFadden, Kun Qian, and Mitchell Sides.
The AP Scholar Award goes to twenty-six present and former MHS students by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher. They include Seniors Matthew Aden, Bailee Arfele, Kaitlin Galloway, Alexandria Giles, Mason McDonald, Kaylee Platz-Panico, Gabriel Rueda, and Dylan Wood. Junior students Katrina English, Laura Rutherford, and Aelia Waqif also received this award. 2011 graduates Courtney Felinski, Clifford Frankel, Emily Hill, James McDade, Spencer McDonald, Michael Ohsfeldt, Abbey Reisz, Bridgette Rose, Laura Stringer, and Joseph Vasselli are recipients as well.
AP students who score a 3 or higher on AP exams typically experience greater academic success in college and have higher college graduation rates than students who do not participate in AP. Magnolia High School celebrates these fine young men and women on their academic achievements.
