HOUSTON, TX – The
Astros continue the team’s off-field mission of making a positive
difference in the community through numerous charitable programs and
partnerships. Highlights for the season’s last homestand include the
Astros In Action Foundation MarketPlace benefitting wildfire victims and
the Astros MLB Urban Youth Academy, Play Green® school visit and final On The Home Front and Home Sweet Home military programs.
SEPTEMBER 22 – 28: Community Clubhouse
The
Astros Community Clubhouse is located on the main concourse behind
section the escalators near section 107. This booth is a central
location for many in-park community activities, including Astros In
Action Foundation memorabilia auctions and Astros Buddies Kids Club
membership registration. On select game days, the Community Clubhouse
also serves as an awareness booth for charities interested in making
information available to fans about their cause.

SEPTEMBER 22 – 28: OPERATION VETERAN APPRECIATION
Operation
Veteran Appreciation, sponsored by Gallery Furniture, honors the
military and is a specific tribute to veterans for their past service.
Each Astros home game, one veteran and their guest will attend a game
courtesy of the team, watching from two unique and patriotic seats.
These specially designed red, white and blue seats are field level
behind home plate in section 119, row 31, seats 11 and 12. The tickets
are pre-loaded with $15 that can be spent at the ballpark.
SEPTEMBER 23: ON THE HOME FRONT
The
Astros and the USO are working together to host On The Home Front,
sponsored by Gallery Furniture. One Friday a month, the Astros welcome
several military families that have a loved one serving away from home
to a special Astros experience that includes a batting practice visit
and tickets to the game. Each participant’s ticket is loaded with $15
that can be spent at most concession and retail stands at Minute Maid
Park.
SEPTEMBER 23 – 25: ASTROS IN ACTION FOUNDATION MARKETPLACE
The
Astros In Action Foundation MarketPlace is a weekend event that
includes a drive to collect food, personal hygiene items and cash for
wildfire victims, mystery autographed baseball grab bags, baseball
pulls, silent auctions (Friday, Saturday), free autograph sessions with
former Astros (Saturday) and a one-day garage sale (Sunday). The Astros
are also hosting an online auction September 19-28.
Proceeds
from the event and the online auction will support the Montgomery
County United Way for wildfire victims and the Houston Astros MLB Urban
Youth Academy. In addition to the money raised through MarketPlace, the
Astros will award an additional cash grant to the Montgomery County
United Way.
Food, Personal Hygiene and Cash Collection – Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Friday
through Sunday, the Astros In Action Foundation will conduct a drive at
the entrance gates to collect non-perishable food, personal hygiene
items and cash for the Montgomery County Food Bank as they assist those
affected by area wildfires.
Mystery Autographed Baseball Grab Bags – Friday, Saturday and Sunday or Until Sold Out
For
$50, fans will be able to purchase a mystery autographed baseball grab
bag that contains one autographed ball, a certificate for two Field
level tickets to a 2012 Houston Astros regular season home game and an
Astros cap. Many of the bags, in addition to the ball, tickets and cap
will also include other prizes.
Baseball Pulls – Friday, Saturday and Sunday or Until Sold Out
Fans
can also acquire an autographed baseball for only $25 at the baseball
pull locations. “Buckets of baseballs” will contain velvet bags with
one autographed baseball inside.
Silent Auction – Friday and Saturday
Friday
and Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to bid on exclusive Astros
items in silent auctions. Each day will feature a new selection of
autographed items and will include a few pieces of game-used equipment.
Astros Alumni Autograph Sessions – Saturday
On
Saturday, September 24, fans will be able to get free autographs from
former players. Astros alumni will sign on the main concourse behind
home plate, next to Astros Authentics between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Garage Sale – Sunday
A
very popular activity, the Garage Sale returns on Sunday, September 25
and fans will have the chance to purchase unique mementos before the
season ends. Astros promotional merchandise begins at just $1.00.
Online Auction – September 19 – 28
Beginning Monday, September 19, Astros fans can go to http://astros.auction.mlb.com and bid on unique Astros experiences.
SEPTEMBER 25: HOME SWEET HOME
Each
Sunday home game, the Astros and the USO are working together on the
team’s Home Sweet Home program sponsored by Budweiser. Home Sweet Home
welcomes a small group of active, recently returned military personnel
and their guests to a special Astros experience that includes a player
meet and greet. They watch the game from a suite and are introduced to
the crowd prior to the seventh inning singing of “God Bless America.”
SEPTEMBER 26: PLAY GREEN® SCHOOL VISIT
Play Green® ambassador Chris Johnson will visit 50 fourth-sixth grade students atWilson Montessori School at 2100 Yupon, Houston, TX, 77009 from
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. A Houston ISD charter school, every student is
taught the value of recycling. The school spearheaded a project to
raise more than $300,000 to build Wilson Wonder Ground, a park that will
feature recycled material in many of the design elements. Wilson
Montessori and Rice Engineering are collaborating to develop an
indoor-outdoor “metalab” adjacent to the park. The lab will run on
alternate energy and feature solar panels and a wind turbine giving
students first-hand lessons on renewable resources.
Johnson’s visit rewards the kids for their Earth-friendly efforts and while there, he will read Curious George Plants a Tree,
present the kids with their own autographed copy of the book along with
tickets to that evening’s game where they will be recognized in a
pre-game ceremony.
September 26 – 29: Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth Academy Instruction
The
Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth Academy (UYA) continues free baseball
and softball instruction for all Astros UYA members. Hours of
instruction are Monday-Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the UYA
located at Sylvester Turner Park, 2801 Victory, Houston, TX, 77088. To
