SPRING ISD – During Generation TX Week, Oct. 10-14, Spring ISD is planning a variety of activities to help students as young as kindergarten start planning to attend college. Activities will include College Night 2011 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Westfield High School,16713 Ella Blvd.
“College night and college week activities aren’t just for high school students. Although we encourage them to participate, we especially want our elementary and middle school students to get involved and start thinking about college now so they will already be on track by the time they start high school,” said Tranita Carroll, Westfield High School College Connections Counselor.
Generation TX Week activities will take place districtwide at elementary, middle school and high school campuses. Activities that include door decorating contests, student poster displays and student poetry contests will all focus on the importance of a college education for future success.
“We want parents, districtwide, to be aware of these activities and invite them to help us raise the level of their students’ college awareness by bringing them to college night and supporting their participation in the activities,” Carroll said.
The district’s annual College Night 2011 will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Westfield High School, 16713 Ella Blvd. Representatives from over 100 colleges and universities in Texas and many out-of-state universities will be present to answer questions and provide information about their institutions. Workshops on college admissions and financial aid will be offered, and college assessment information will also be available at the event.
