TWO TOMBALL ISD SCHOOLS NAMED TO TEXAS HONORS CIRCLE AWARD LIST

TOMBALL ISD – Two Tomball ISD schools – Willow Creek Elementary and Northpointe Intermediate School – were named to the Texas Comptroller’s 2011 Texas Honors Circle Award list, which recognizes schools that have achieved superior student academic growth while keeping spending low.

“This is honor for the entire staff at Willow Creek Elementary School,” Principal Jo Ann Colson said. “We closely manage our campus budget and carefully review instructional materials to ensure our students are successful.”

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced that 313 schools received the Texas Honors Circle Award for high rankings received in the 2011 Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST). FAST, mandated by the 2009 Texas Legislature is an annual study that examines both academic performance and financial efficiency to identify school districts and campuses that deliver high-quality education at a relatively low cost. Campus FAST ratings were determined by taking the average of the district’s composite academic progress percentile and its spending index.

Northpointe Intermediate School Principal Darrell McReynolds credited the honor to his staff’s commitment to planning. “Our entire staff is involved in setting financial and academic goals, and planning activities that are incorporated into our Campus Improvement Plan,” he said. “We continue to review, revise and remove items that no longer work, and discuss new proposals that will help us target our goals.”
