Jamie Sookprasong invents wireless charging device during internship
KLEIN ISD — Jamie Sookprasong, a senior at Klein Oak High, spent his summer interning with Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) Consumer Notebook and electrical engineering divisions. Sookprasong became interested in seeking an internship with the company after competing alongside his peers at the 2011 HP Codewars.
During the internship, he was actively involved in the creative processes and had opportunities to interact with professionals across the globe. In addition to his daily projects, he coincidentally designed a wireless charging invention for laptops and electronic devices that is currently undergoing patent review.
“It was something I thought of several months earlier and forgot about until I was fortunate enough to be a part of a brainstorming meeting,” said Sookprasong. “I shared the idea with my mentor and he helped me develop it and eventually assisted me in filing the patent disclosure for the product for HP.”
Sookprasong was born in Singapore and moved to Texas as a child with his mother, sister and father, who is a petroleum engineer. After graduation, he hopes to attend St John’s College at the University of Cambridge and also become an engineer.
