ISD – Evelyn Turlington Elementary School 3rd grade student Carolina
Herrera won a new bike just in time to ride during the two week long Winter
Break. The Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge #380 in Fields Store, established in
1872, donated a new bike to Fields Store Elementary School and to Evelyn
Turlington Elementary School to giveaway to a lucky Mystery Clue Solving
Challenge and Reading Contest participant.
At
Turlington Elementary, student names were placed into a box for each mystery
solved. The weekly winners were placed in another box to have a chance to be
drawn for the grand prize bike. Carolina solved the clue by guessing the
word “verb”. She said, “This is WOW!” when she found out she won the
bike. Carolina quickly jumped on the bike and took it for a test ride down the
main hallway in the elementary school.
The
Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge is known in the community for its commitment to
education excellence. The Lodge Members presented Fields Store Elementary
Teacher Kathy Eckermann the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award for Educational Excellence
last school year. The Lamar Award is awarded to students and educators in
recognition of outstanding personal achievement in academics, citizenship, and
community service. The Lodge also sponsors the Fantastic Teeth Fan Club by
giving away dental hygiene products to students at local schools.
