Through
fun cakes and an amazing foundation, d’Zrt Cake Studio is reaching out to the
public to raise awareness for the importance of organ donations and the impact
it can have on a child’s future.
This Christmas, Charity
Pykles-George of the d’Zrt Cake Studio in La Mesa, donated her confectionary
talents to a foundation near and dear to her heart. Icing Smiles is a nonprofit
organization that specializes in bringing a little joy to families struggling
with children with critical illnesses. They understand that sometimes even a
small gesture can create big smiles, which is why they recruit professional
bakers from across the globe to whip up celebratory cakes and treats for kids
in need.
As a
full-fledged Sugar Angel and a member of the organization’s board of directors,
Charity presented a very special child with the cake of his dreams on December
24th! For Avan Cook, turning three is a milestone he might not have reached
without the support of his family and the miracle of an organ transplant. For
his recent birthday, Charity pulled out all the stops to create a custom cake
he’ll never forget. Bright colors and a world of high seas shenanigans and
pirates collided in Avan’s delicious chocolate cake.
For Charity, her time and creations
are meant for more than a sweat treat. She knows firsthand the struggles of
parents and kids trying to keep their heads above the water during troubling
times. Her own daughter has been a patient at the Rady Children’s Hospital’s
hematology and oncology wards. In the days to come she is looking forward to
creating many sugar smiles and telling others about how they can contribute to
making a child’s day and future unforgettable.
