HARRIS COUNTY DEPUTIES ROUND UP SAFE BICYCLE RIDERS AT HERITAGE ELEMENTARY BIKE RODEO

SPRING ISD – The Harris County Sheriff’s Department conducted a bike safety training program for kindergarten, first- and second-grade students at Heritage Elementary School in Spring ISD during the week before winter break.

Five bike safety stations were set up in the school parking lot where deputies and students worked on slow-speed control, straight-line control, proper signaling and safely interacting with traffic. Students also learned the rules of the road and what safety gear they need to protect themselves.

All that training came at a good time since Heritage Elementary had been selected to participate in the Elves & More Bicycle Reward Program. Over 200 bicycles were handed out Dec, 17, the first Saturday of their winter break, to Heritage kindergarten through second-grade students who met individual academic and conduct goals. The Elves & More organization has donated bicycles to thousands of children in the Greater Houston area.
