Board will also consider 2012-2013 school year calendar
HOUSTON ISD – The HISD Board of Education today will elect new officers for 2012 and administer the oath of office to trustees elected in November.
The oaths of office will be administered during a special ceremony at 11 a.m. in the the Board auditorium of the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center (4400 West 18th St., 77092).
Newly elected District II Trustee Rhonda Skillern-Jones will be taking the oath for the first time. A native Houstonian, Skillern-Jones attended HISD’s River Oaks Elementary School and Lanier Middle School before graduating from Aldine Eisenhower High School. A full-time HISD volunteer for 19 years, Skillern-Jones and her husband have five children, all of whom have attended HISD schools. Skillern-Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in clinical sociology from Texas Southern University.
Several incumbent members of the HISD Board of Education will be renewing their oaths of office. They are: Manuel Rodriguez Jr. (District III), Paula M. Harris (District IV), and Juliet K. Stipeche (District VIII).
The Board’s regular monthly meeting begins at 5 p.m. this evening in the Board auditorium.
Trustees are scheduled to elect a new Board President and other officers for 2012.
Also, trustees will consider adopting the 2012-2013 school year calendar. Key dates in the proposed calendar include:
· August 20, 2012 (First day of school for selected priority schools)
· August 27, 2012 (First day of school for most HISD campuses)
· November 21-23, 2012 (Thanksgiving break)
· December 24, 2012 – January 4, 2013 (Winter break)
· March 11-15, 2013 (Spring break)
· June 6, 2013 (Last day of instruction)
