26th Annual R.T. Garcia Early Childhood Winter Conference keynote address promotes early childhood practices that deter bullying 90-plus networking sessions include best practices in ESL, early math and reading to attract educators statewide
HOUSTON, TX – Early childhood educators network and gain best practices at the 26th Annual R.T. Garcia Early Childhood Winter Conference on Jan. 28. Over 90 breakout sessions cover areas of interest ranging from bilingual education to early childhood math, reading, science and fine arts. Sponsored by Harris County Department of Education, the conference traditionally attracts over 1,500 educators annually.
The conference features free parking at a inner-city venue centrally located at 6011 W. Orem at the Kingdom Builders’ Center, located one block off of S. Post Oak with nearby access to Loop 610 and Beltway 8.
Keynote speaker is Becky Bailey, award-winning author and childhood education/developmental psychology expert. Bailey’s address is titled: “Hitting, Pushing and Name-calling: Bully-proofing your Class or School.” Bilingual keynote speaker is Patricia Morales, bilingual specialist for Harris County Department of Education. Her session is called “Bicultural and Bilingual Practices to Promote Bi-literacy: Spanish/English Connections.”

“The conference is a tradition and offers a great chance to network and gain valuable teaching methods and materials for the classroom,” said HCDE early childhood specialist Debra Anderson.
The conference is dedicated to Raymond T. Garcia, former HCDE Board of Trustees president who supported and promoted the conference throughout his tenure as board of trustee and board president from 1994 to 2008.
Walden University sponsors the conference.
