LOBOS RAISE MONEY TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER

CYFAIR ISD – The Langham Creek High School girls’ basketball team
hosted its first Shoot for a Cure breast cancer awareness game on Dec.
16 against Stratford High School.

The team held a bake sale complete with
a pink lemonade stand and breast cancer awareness station, and also
sold t-shirts. The girls wore pink basketball shoes and pink eyeliner
for the event.

Langham Creek head coach Annette
Steward said senior player Rebekah Douglas initially approached her
about putting on the event, so she put her in charge of it. Teacher
Kristi Crawford, who lost a dear friend to breast cancer, served as the
coordinator of the event, which raised $800 to go toward Causes for a
Cure, a 501(c)(3) charity to help find the cause of breast cancer.

“I was proud to hear that we raised
$800. This game not only educated my athletes, but also brought
awareness to our students at Langham Creek and our community,” Steward
said.

Causes for a Cure was founded by Betty
Sommer, the mother of Lowery Elementary School teacher Stacey Gaecke,
who lost her battle to breast cancer in 2010. More information on the
foundation can be found at www.causesforacure.org.
