Buccaneers will play home opener on Friday
ALVIN, Texas – The Blinn
College baseball team split an afternoon double-header against the Alvin
Community College Dolphins here Saturday.
Blinn lost the first game
of the twin bill 5-4 before defeating Alvin 9-7 in the finale. Alvin won the
series opener 9-0 on Friday.
Shortstop Jake Kane hit
a two-run single in the seventh inning to put the Buccaneers ahead for good in
the series finale, capping off a three-hit game for the sophomore. Freshman
Eric Wood went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Kevin Daniels went 2-for-5 with an
RBI.
Wood (1-0) won the game
in relief, shutting out the Dolphins for 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four
while allowing just two hits.
Trevor Seidenberger
started the game for the Bucs, allowing two earned runs on four hits while
striking out five.
In the opener, Blinn
(1-2, 1-2 in Region XIV) rallied for three runs in the final two innings, but
it wasn’t enough to pull out the win.
Wood went 2-for-4 with
an RBI, and Kane and Holden Cammack each drove in runs, but the Dolphins scored
three runs in the fifth inning to jump out to a 5-1 advantage that the
Buccaneers couldn’t completely erase.
Christian DeLeon (0-1)
took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck
out five over five innings.
Michael Vielma threw a
scoreless sixth inning.
The Buccaneers will play
their home opener at Leroy Dreyer Field Friday when they host Wharton County
Junior College at 6 p.m. Friday. That series will conclude Saturday with a 2
p.m. double-header in Wharton.
