HCDE SCHOOL STUDENTS, STAFF DONATE 195 POUNDS OF FOOD TO HOUSTON FOOD BANK

HOUSTON, TX – Over a two-week period, Harris County Department of Education’s Academic and Behavior Center West students and staff held a food and clothing drive to benefit the needy.

On Dec. 14, staff members delivered 195 pounds of food to the Houston Food Bank and four 30-gallon bags of clothes to the Star of Hope.

“Your efforts make an enormous difference in the amount and variety of foods we are able to distribute to feed hungry people in the Houston area. You are truly impacting the lives of people in need,” said Brian Greene, Houston Food Bank President and CEO.

The Houston Food Bank has served the community for more than 28 years by providing food, non-food supplies and support to approximately 500 hunger-relief agencies in the 18 county-area.

Star of Hope is a Christ-based organization dedicated to meeting the needs of Houston’s homeless men, women and their children. They continually seek clothing, food and other supplies to meet the needs of the growing homeless population.

ABC West is a special education alternative school operated by HCDE which provides academic and behavioral opportunities for students ages 5-21. The school serves school districts located in Harris County which contract with HCDE for educational services. The ultimate goal for students who acquire both academic and behavioral enrichment is successful reintegration into their home districts. State-aligned curriculum ranges from academic enrichment to life skills to behavior management.
