WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, today released the following statement regarding the latest Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report predicting the government will run a deficit of more than $1 trillion for the fourth straight fiscal year:
“Today’s CBO report confirms that the President’s affinity for big government and unchecked spending has resulted in an unmanageable deficit that will shackle this nation for the foreseeable future if immediate reforms are not made.
“With complete disregard for his own bipartisan fiscal commission’s recommendations, President Obama continues to lead with the pen, writing blank checks to solve problems and hoping they clear. It is time to put the checkbook away and make the tough choices that real leadership requires.”
Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary, Armed Services and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
