MAGNOLIA ISD – The Magnolia
High School Red and White chapters of Family, Career and Community Leaders of
America attended the Region 4 Leadership Conference in Galveston, Texas,
January 26-28, 2012. The Magnolia High School
chapter members consisting of Amber Coronel, Eddie Gonzalez, Vicky Sherfry,
Alexys Stephens, Andres Garcia, Jade Hooper, Cynthia Luke, Viridiana Leon, Fernanda
Rosa, Abigail Figueroa and Donny Eckhardt were among 700 delegates attending
the two-day conference. The youth
developed the theme, “Highway to Success”, which was carried out through
various specialized leadership tracks, the general sessions and competitive
events.
STAR (Students Taking Action
with Recognition) and Proficiency Events are competitive events in which
members participated. These events allow
members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competitions.
Participating in the Culinary event were the team of Eddie Gongalez, Vicky Sherfry,
and Alexys Stehens who placed 3rd among 35 teams and will advance to
the state conference. The team of Andres
Garcia, Jade Hooper and Cynthia Luke also participated in the culinary event.
Leadership Enhancement
Opportunities is a written test based on a specific subject. Participants receive and gold, silver, bronze
or participation medals. Abigail
Figueroa, Viridiana Leon, and Fernanda Rosa participated in this event and all
received gold medals.
The new region officer team
for 2012-2013 was elected and installed on Friday, January 27, 2012. Amber Coronel was elected as the new region
Vice President of Correspondence and Donny Eckhardt was elected as the new
region Vice President of Membership.
FCCLA is a dynamic youth
organization that has the family as its central focus.
