WILLIAMSON COUNTY GRAND JURY INDICTS MARK ALAN NORWOOD FOR 1986 MURDER OF CHRISTINE MORTON

AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott Wednesday issued the following statement after a Williamson County grand jury returned a capital murder indictment against Mark Alan Norwood for the 1986 murder of Christine Morton:

“An indictment in a cold case cannot bring back the life that was unnecessarily taken, but this is a big step toward answering long unresolved questions for the crime victim’s family,” Attorney General Abbott said.

The grand jury indictment charges Bastrop resident Norwood with one count of capital murder for intentionally causing the death of Round Rock resident Christine Morton on Aug. 13, 1986, while in the course of committing or attempting to commit burglary. If convicted, Norwood could face a sentence of death by lethal injection.

The case was referred to the Texas Attorney General’s Office by the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, which recused itself from the Norwood prosecution.
