HOUSTON GOES RED TODAY TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR WOMEN’S #1 HEALTH THREAT – HEART DISEASE

HOUSTON, TX – More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood. That’s why the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Campaign is asking Houstonians to participate in the 9th Annual National Wear Red Day today to make ending heart disease a reality.

In observance of this important day, Go Red for Women National Sponsor Macy’s is offering a Wear Red Day Sale, which runs Feb 1 through Feb. 5. Customers who wear red to any Macy’s store between February 1st and 5th will receive a special 20 percent discount on a wide assortment of merchandise at Macy’s stores. Additional partners and activities include:

§ Buildings Go Red: The American Heart Association, Houston City Hall and the Galleria’s Williams Tower will light the top of their buildings red on the evening of Feb. 3 to show their support for this important cause.

§ Free Ice Skate Rental: Ice at the Galleria will be adorned with the Go Red for Women logo, and ice skaters who wear red will receive a free ice skate rental (valued at $3.50). The offer is good from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 only.

§ Free Work Out at YMCA: Nonmembers can wear red and workout for free at any YMCA of Greater Houston location on National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 3. For more information, visit http://www.ymcahouston.org/mylife-myymca/.

§ Wear Red Day Challenge: Houstonians are invited to participate in the first-ever Wear Red Day Challenge as the American Heart Association spotlights its most spirited supporters. Go to Facebook.com/GoRed for details.

WHEN: All Day Friday, Feb. 3, 2012

WHERE: Greater Houston Area and all Macys stores

The good news is that it looks like heart disease can be completely prevented with a healthy enough diet, or even reversed:
