CY WOODS STUDENT SELECTED AS PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLAR CANDIDATE

CYFAIR ISD – Cypress Woods High School senior Hannah Richter has been selected as a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program, a program established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President to recognize and honor some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors.

Scholars are chosen on the basis of their accomplishments in many areas—academic and artistic success, leadership and involvement in school and the community—and represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in America’s youth.

Richter is now eligible for selection as one of the 500 semifinalists and ultimately as a Scholar, each of which will be posted on the U.S. Department of Education website in April and May, respectively.

Richter is active in orchestra, soccer, National Honor Society (NHS), Proclaim the Name and Spanish NHS. She frequently volunteers for missions and events through Cypress Bible Church.

She was named an AP Scholar with Distinction in 2011 and received Superior Performance ratings on the cello in both Solo (2009-2011) and Ensemble (2011) competitions. She was a member of the Distinguished Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010 and the Honor Roll in 2011.
