HOPE INTERNATIONAL JOINS THE 58: GLOBAL IMPACT TOUR TO FIGHT POVERTY AROUND THE WORLD

LANCASTER, PA HOPE International, a
Lancaster-based nonprofit, is excited to join nine other leading
poverty-fighting organizations for an innovative online experience
called the
58: Global Impact Tour (http://www.live58.org/tour).
The initiative, which has just launched, invites Christians to live and
think differently to eradicate extreme global poverty.

58: is
a global alliance of Christians, churches and 10 of the world’s leading
poverty-fighting organizations working together with one goal—to end
extreme poverty
by 2035. 58: takes its name from the biblical mandate of Isaiah 58 to care for the poor and oppressed. HOPE is part of the
58: Alliance, which also consists of Compassion International,
The Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC), ECHO, Food for
the Hungry, International Justice Mission, Living Water International,
Micah Challenge, Plant with Purpose, and World
Relief.

Over the next 12 months, the
58: Global Impact Tour
will deliver an interactive online experience
featuring 12 countries, 12 issues, and 12 poverty-fighting projects. It
invites Christians to live out Isaiah 58, where the prophet Isaiah
chastises God’s people for empty displays of
religion and calls for a “true fast” that will remove the chains of
injustice, set the oppressed free, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless
and clothe the naked.

HOPE will be featured
on the tour in May, addressing physical and spiritual poverty through
microenterprise development, which includes loans as small as $100,
biblically based business training and access to
savings services.

The online tour
invites Christians to fast, pray and give together to fight extreme
poverty and provides a variety of ways to get involved, such as learning
about poverty-related issues, praying for specific
needs, giving sacrificially and inviting others to donate to Alliance
organizations.

Peter Greer, HOPE president and CEO explains why HOPE has joined the
58: Global Impact Tour, “At this key moment in history, the
global Church is awakening to the plight of the poor, the oppressed, and
the orphan. I’m excited to witness how the Global Impact Tour—by
partnering with the global Church—is helping to unleash
Jesus Christ’s call to uplift the poor and the needy to bring about
reconciliation with God and restoration on earth.”
